About Us

Williamsburg AleWerks is located in the heart of the early colonies in Williamsburg, Virginia. Established in 2006 we have rolled out a broad range of beer offerings and quickly established a reputation for fine beer. We operate a direct fired brick-clad Peter Austin brew house and ferment all our beers in state-of-the-art conical fermentors.

Chuck Haines - Manager chuck@williamsburgalewerks.com

Long a proponent of fine beer Chuck has had his hand in breweries from the late 1990's. With a plan to restore a microbrew presence in Williamsburg he secured the old Williamsburg Brewing Company facility and recruited a brewer.

With a background that includes long service in the finest Army on the planet to small business ownership he mans the reigns on AleWerks day to day financial and sales issues.

Mike Pensinger - Chief Brewer mike@williamsburgalewerks.com

Mike has roots in brewing in the Hampton Roads area. A retired Chief Petty Officer in the worlds greatest Navy, he is also the former brewer for Hilltop Brewing company from 2002 to 2004 and former owner of one of the East Coast's largest homebrew supply shops, Mike has amassed a lot of experience in all facets of the local brewing industry.

While happy making the beers that pay the bills he loves to exercise his creativity by producing some truly great Reserve beers and is always on the lookout for something new to make. Mike personnaly designed and installed our direct fired, brick clad, Peter Austin 25 barrel brew system, four fermentors, laboratory, and state of the art packaging system.

Geoff Logan - Sales Manager geoff@williamsburgalewerks.com

Geoff is one of those creative types. While he loves beer and brews his own at home, he also plays Guitar, Bass and Drums. He has toured with a few bands including RainMarket.

Geoff is the lead sales guy for AleWerks. Without him we don't sell beer. That would be bad! He is also a part of our packaging team that we just couldn't do without.

Robert Southern - BrewJack

Robert is a Virginia Native who moved to Williamsburg in 1984. While not at the brewery he has a diverse set of interests to include art, computer games and collecting vintage toys and games.

He is the Brewhouse Jack-of-all-trades. There is no other way to describe Robert. Whether it is building packaging, cleaning tanks, filtering beer or just scrubbing the floor, he makes this place run smoothly.

FreeJacks
We have a number of volunteer brewery helpers. These are usually local college students who are interested in joining the brewing industry. The function in a flexible hour unpaid intern status. In return for thier help we give them experience in the industry and references for resumes.
