Late Update

Filed under: Weekly Stuff — beermkr @ 7:21 am

Okay, Okay, I am sorry it has been a couple weeks since my last post!

We are madly prepping for the upcoming festival season. We have the Northern Virginia Brewfest at Mrven Park in Leesburg this weekend and the Capital Ale House Festival on the 5th of July. The big one is Floyd Fest in July. Four days of beer, music and camping. What fun!

The other day one of our FreeJack’s, Ravi, stopped my to give us a hand. We were in the middle of something so he decided that the best thing he could do was clean out the mashtun. So I walk into the brewery to this…

No Ravi it is not a big hot tub!

I hope he had shorts on… You have to understand that during this week it was topping 100 degrees in the brewery and we were all suffering! I would have brewed naked if I could have gotten away with it!

We bought a new camera for the brewery lab and events so look forward to more pictures in upcoming posts.

Well time to go bottle 4 pallets of IPA! Come see us in Morven Park this weekend!

United States Beer Tasting Championships

Filed under: Weekly Stuff — beermkr @ 3:00 pm

So I get a call yesterday (May 22nd) and find out that someone entered
our Porter in the USBT championships. Lo and behold we were judged as
the best porter in the Mid-Atlantic region and apparently cam in a
close second to the grand champion. The grand champion was Rogue’s
Mocha Porter. All right! Our first award!

I am pretty happy with a second place to Rogue. They make great beers
and have paved the way for may of us.

Gas mileage update: 400 miles - 57 mpg average!

I tell you 60 mph and over pressurized tires are the key to economy.
It still amazes me how fast people drive on the roads. I was driving
home yesterday and saw a blazer and a trailer flipped in the middle of
the highway. A family (2 adults and 3 kids) are already out and only
had bumps and scrapes. Seat belts are an awesome thing. The
interesting part is that the wreck covered both southbound lanes and I
watched people drive around the accident on the median. The car is
upside down and gas is coming out. How much of a hurry can you be in
to chance driving by a potential explosion? Amazing!
